Caring Thru Covid

Many people have taken on extra care and support for a loved one since the coronavirus pandemic began. Local surveys have found that many in this situation have struggled with their own mental health – feeling isolated, frustrated, sad, worried, bored, trapped and fearful about the future.

Our speakers are:

Caroline Haworth from the Hive Portsmouth. As a carer herself, Caroline recognizes the issues many of us face when looking after and feeling responsible for a family member, partner or friend – even if you wouldn’t call yourself a carer! In her current role, Caroline helps to support a wide range of charities and community groups based in Portsmouth, and she previously worked for the Portsmouth Carers Centre particularly with people looking after someone else experiencing mental ill-health.

Claudine Weeks from Healthwatch Hampshire. As the Communication and Engagement lead, Claudine is passionate about sharing information in ways that people will find interesting and accessible. Claudine will talk about the research carried out last summer by Healthwatch Hampshire into the views of informal carers about their experiences during lockdown and the kind of support they’re looking for.

It will also be of interest to people working in social care and social support roles who may want to find out how to signpost to this new project, and to gain more knowledge about what’s available in the local area.

There’ll be opportunities for questions and the event will be recorded so it can be shared for wider distribution.
